Engine Parts

The original engine for this car was removed in the 1980s and placed in a Cobra replica. The block is still floating around Oregon and there have been rumors of it's availabilty for years. The original blocks were not VIN stamped. You see below that I obtained a correct dated coded side oiler block from Cobra Automotive who removed it (running) from a original 427 Cobra they were restoring. It took me 2 years to find the J-Heads. You see maybe one pair for sale a year and they always go for 2k or more.

Here are the parts that come with the engine:

Missing Pieces

Anything not listed explicity is not included. The good news is that I've found the correct (and expensive) hard stuff. The remaining parts, internals, exhaust manifolds, accessories, etc, are all shared with the 390 engine are are obtainable. My plan was to put a complete new rotating assembly in the engine as well as a slightly beefier cam then stock. Externally the engine would be 100% correct but internally it woudl be stronger and more powerful.

Block

This is an original 1960's Ford 427 SideOiler Block. It was removed from an authentic 427 Corbra in running condition but is correct for the 427 GTE. The casting date is 7H2 (August 2nd 1967) which is consistent and correct for the blocks that were put into the GTE. This is the description from cobra automotive: It is a fresh .030 overbore and ready to run. It has some evidence of an earlier connecting rod issue and it has 2 sleeves installed in cylinder numbers 2 and 6. The sleeves were professionally installed with no apparent evidence of a seam on the deck surface. There are some typical remaining nicks near the sleeves that do not present a problem. There is one small nick in the bottom of cylinder number 5 that is below the ring sealing surface that wil not be an issue and does not need to be sleeved. The block is clean and without any other flaws. It has all the matching main caps and special spacers with bolts. It also has the correct block plugs with special bypass valves unique to the 427 side oiler. The deck has been surfaced and is nice and flat.

Carburators & Intake

The car comes with 3 C8AF-9510-AD carburators. One is completly rebuilt and cost me $750. The other was removed from a GTE and came with the intake. It includes the spacer. The other is a spare body. All are all date code correct. The intake is a C7AE-9426-F casting and was removed from at GTE.

Heads

These are the rare as hen's teeth "J" heads that came on the 427 GTE. It took me 2 years to find these and they cost me $2,000 plus the shipping. They have the 7M15 date codes which is correct for the GTE. One is VERY CLEAR, the other is faint but readable, these will need rebuilt. There is one missing exhaust valve. These also have had an extra hole drilled on the end exhaust ports at the top. One of the heads has a slight crack on the top of each end exhaust port flange. Looks like JB Weld would be a very good fix for this and once painted should not show. A better fix would be stitching welding it. Heads do not look like they've been milled at all and I think they still have the original valves in them.
